What is it?

A hands-on, activities-based training that introduces teachers to the basics of the Linux operating system, programming in Python, basic electronics, and cybersecurity fundamentals! You get: the Raspberry Pi computer (Version 4 with 8GB memory), along with keyboard, mouse, monitor, Python book, and a basic electronic kit, provided to all participants and delivered straight to your door for use in the course — with no cost to you!

Raspberry Pi’s are fully capable, credit-card-sized computers that cost as low as $35 each and are wonderful additions to your STEAM classroom. They are easy on the budget and allow students to participate and interact with tactile computing. The course will provide you all of the training and resources you need to integrate Raspberry Pi’s into your curriculum.

Who is it for?

This program is for 9th through 12th grade teachers who currently are engaged in teaching Technology and other STEAM-related courses but don’t have experience using Raspberry Pi’s, Python, or Linux – but want to learn. Twenty teachers will be selected to participate in this no-cost, self-paced eLearning opportunity.

The course will run in a Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) and have both synchronous (lab hours with the instructor) and asynchronous modules (where you complete the assignments and learning objectives at your own pace). The course instructor, John Romero, will deliver fun lessons that teach you exciting new skills to share with to your students.

If you are a teacher who is looking to gain knowledge and practicable skills in cybersecurity, Computer Science and cyber-related activities, through hands-on training, as well as improve your delivery of cybersecurity content, then this course is for you!

Camp Highlights:

  1. The course is FUN and FREE!
  2. The Raspberry Pi 4, keyboard, mouse, monitor, Python book, and electronics kit will be sent directly to your home and are yours to keep.
  3. You will earn 4 CEUs from the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station upon completion of this course.
  4. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to enroll in a separate CompTIA Security+ Certification online training course, with test voucher included, for $125 (approximately 75% off regular price of $495).
