Master of Science – Computer Science
The mission of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering is to develop the human and intellectual resources needed to meet the future technological challenges in the field of computing.
The degree of Master of Computer Science (MCS) is a non-thesis degree, designed to complement the Master of Science in Computer Science thesis degree. The MCS should be thought of as a professional degree. This degree does not include a thesis, project, or final examination.
Doctor of Philosopy – Computer Science
Work leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science is designed to give candidates a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of their professional field and training in methods of research.
MEngr – Computer Engineering
The Master of Engineering (MEng) in Computer Engineering should be thought of as a professional, terminal degree. This degree does not include a thesis, project, or final examination. The degree covers the engineering of hardware/software systems based on knowledge of both electrical engineering and computer science using projects and coursework.
PHD – Computer Engineering
Work leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is designed to give the candidate a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of his or her professional field and training in methods of research. The final basis for granting the degree shall be the candidate’s grasp of the subject matter of a broad field of study and a demonstrated ability to do independent research. In addition, the candidate must have acquired the ability to express thoughts clearly and forcefully in both oral and written languages. The degree is not granted solely for the completion of coursework, residence and technical requirements, although these must be met. Graduates of the Computer Engineering program will be well prepared to enter higher education, private or public industry, and much more.
MEngr, Computer Engineering
A student holding a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a qualified senior during the last semester may apply for admission to graduate studies to work toward the non-thesis degree of Master of Engineering (MEng), majoring in their particular field of engineering. The work in the major field will include one or two written reports (not necessarily involving results of research conducted by the candidate). Students choose one of seven focus areas within the department, including:
- Analog and Mixed Signal
- Biomedical Imaging, Sensing and Genomic Signal Processing
- Device Science and Nanotechnology
- Energy and Power
- Electromagnetics and Microwaves
- Information Science and Systems
- Computer Engineering Systems
Graduates of the Computer Engineering program will be well prepared to enter higher education, private or public industry, and much more.
MS, Computer Engineering
- The Master of Science degree in computer engineering is well-suited for students interested in gaining advanced knowledge in computer engineering topics related to their specific area of interest. The MS degree is available as both thesis and non-thesis. Those pursuing the thesis option participate in cutting-edge research and will be well-prepared for research and development careers in industry or pursuing a doctoral degree.
The MS program in computer engineering is offered on-campus. Students may complete no more than 50 percent of the credit hours required for the program through distance learning.
PHD, Computer Engineering
- Work leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is designed to give the candidate a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of his or her professional field and training in methods of research. The final basis for granting the degree shall be the candidate’s grasp of the subject matter of a broad field of study and a demonstrated ability to do independent research. Students choose research from one of the Computer Engineering focus areas, including: - Computer Architecture
- Cyber Physical Systems
- Data Science
- Electronic Design Automation
- Hardware Security
- Networks
- VLSI Circuits and Systems
Graduates of the Computer Engineering program will be well prepared to enter private or public industry and much more.
Stand-Alone Certificate, Cybersecurity Engineering
- The dependence of public, private, not-for-profit and non-governmental organizations on cyber systems for the security, safety and privacy of the individuals they serve and the enterprises they operate increases as the digital age advances. As society becomes more and more connected and as smart systems continue to evolve, there is a clear need for engineers to develop a good understanding of cybersecurity principles.
The certificate in Cybersecurity Engineering provides students with the core concepts, tools and skills in cybersecurity engineering. These skills are essential for the design, integration, operation, and maintenance of large-scale systems in the government, military and civil industries. The cybersecurity engineering discipline is focused on the successful realization and protection of large-scale, interconnected systems. The scope of cybersecurity engineering spans the entire system lifecycle, from earliest conception through system retirement.
The College of Engineering offers this Cybersecurity Engineering certificate to prepare engineers with the knowledge they need to maintain a safe, technologically-enhanced environment.
This program is also approved for delivery via asynchronous or synchronous distance education technology.
The Bush School of Government and Public Policy
Certificate in Cybersecurity Policy
The Certificate in Cybersecurity Policy is a four-course program that requires two courses in cybersecurity policy to be taken at the Bush School but includes course options in the College of Engineering and the Mays Business School.
Mays Business School
Certificate in Cybersecurity Management
The Certificate in Cybersecurity Management is a four-course program that requires three courses from the Mays Business school and a fourth elective to be chosen from courses in engineering, math, and public service and administration.
Texas A&M School of Law
Certificate in Risk Management and Compliance
The Certificate in Risk Management and Compliance is designed for risk management professionals to deliver specialized legal training for compliance and incidence response and an in-depth understanding of the industry’s changing complex legal aspects. It includes a cybersecurity law course as an elective.
