Scholarships are available from a wide variety of sources for students pursuing education in a cyber-related field. Application to scholarship programs is highly encouraged for all students, as they can release a significant financial burden from students and their families. Active workforce professionals keep up with current technologies and histories of their profession in order to remain at the forefront of cybersecurity practices. A list of must-read books has been developed for the enrichment of both current as aspiring cybersecurity practitioners. These resources represent both fiction and nonfiction depictions of the history of the cyber community, and characterize key places or significant milestones in the community. Whether they originate from industry, government, or academia, the content is timeless and genuinely represents aspects of the community that are true and precise. Review of these works is highly recommended to all professionals to help fill holes in education that may not be covered in a general education.
In addition to the above resources, professionals can read the cybersecurity publication by Texas A&M Former Student Ray Rothrock ’77. Mr. Rothrock is currently the CEO of RedSeal Inc. and serves on the Board of Directors for several other companies. In his book, Digital Resilience, Mr. Rothrock addresses the cybersecurity risks facing today’s corporate world, encouraging preparation of defense mechanisms for cyber attacks. This book helps businesses understand the threats they face, assess the resilience of their networks against attacks, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and respond to exploits swiftly and effectively. A highly recommended read, Rothrock’s Digital Resilience is a powerful guide that provides the resilience-building strategies needed to prevail in — no matter what strikes.

Employers are more likely to hire someone with internships and work experience rather than someone with a generic resume, lacking experience.
